Hi,
Congratulation
for this super site !
I
would like to make a link from my site to yours on www.expedition-agaguk.com.
And if you could add, about us, on your site, that we also offer guided
trips on Anticosti island this would be great. By the way, if you go to
Havre-Saint-Pierre one day, please don't be shy and come visit us : 418-538-1588,
1062 Boréal Havre-Saint-Pierre. It's a five minutes walk from
the wharf.
Thanks
a lot

Nice
job! I've Nordiked and flown that coast several times; like Labrador
it
gets in your blood.

Hi,
I
live in Chevery. I was in Harrington while you were there I think. I remember
seeing you camping in the skating rink and seeing your things thrown over
the rink boards to dry as i walked past on the board walk. A few days after
that we took the Relais Nordik east to Blanc Sablon. As far as i can determine
from the dates we went east around the same time you did. Now I wish I
had stopped by the rink to say hello in Harrington. I have really enjoyed
reading about your trip. Wish I had taken up kayaking or canoeing when
I was younger. I grew up in row boats and motor boats without a life jacket.
Now I am a bit scared in boats even with a life jacket, lol.
With
Best Wishes,
Gloria
Bobbitt
Gloria,
Thank you very much for your kind message. We did not spend enough time in Harrington Harbour, being tired and stressed before our departure and tied for time during our brief stop on the Nordik on the way back.
We were fortunate to meet a few people during our short time there and had a little peek in the North Shore way of life. I wish we had had more time to get more acquainted. Next time !
I am a little bit curious about your name. We met some Bobbitts in Mutton Bay and were wondering if you were related ? I understand that the Bobbitts from Harrington Harbour are a different family from those in Mutton Bay...
Thanks for the link to the McGill site. I had read about this young man who kayaked across Canada and had heard that he had planned to complete his journey by kayaking from Montreal to Newfoundland. I was very happy to read it and rediscover some of the places we paddled from another point of view. Did you know that not only did he paddle, walk or bicycle his way across the continent, but that he also built his kayak himself !
I must also say that his experience was rather frightening and that he was courageous to undertake his trip so late in the year.
Best regards,
Jean-Marie

Dear
Jean-Marie,
I
was always told we were some relation to the Bobbitts in Mutton Bay but
I always thought it was a very distant relationship. Apparently not according
to researcher Sharon Chubbs-Ransom of La Tabatiere and Harrington, now
living in St. John's. It seems that William Bobbitt, my greatgrandfather,
who came to Harrington from Burgeo, Newfoundland in the late 1800's was
a brother of the first Bobbitt man in Mutton Bay. Sharon is the coordinator
of the Lower North Shore geneological website that is part of the Quebec
Gen Website and has recently entered a lot of new material re the Lower
North Shore and its surname there. You would probably find it interesting.
Yes
I only discovered a bit later that that young man had paddled all the way
across Canada. At first I only say the Lower North Shore portion of his
trip. I was totally impressed when i realized he had done a complete across
Canada trip. Yes I saw too that he makes his own kayaks. If I were a paddler
I would be tempted to buy one or at least want to buy one. If you are interested
I will send you a list of sites that i have found recently on Labrador
and trips. Let me know.
Best
Wishes, Gloria Bobbitt

I really
enjoyed reading about your trip and seeing all the pictures of the lower
north shore. I was born in july 1950 at Harrington Hbr hospital ,
was a general hospital at that time but grew up on Gull Cliff Island .
Its on your left hand side of the passage into the Harbour at Harrington
.
I
left home when I was 19 to go to high school in NB and have never lived
back home longer than 10 mths since but still love it forever and I guess
its in my blood. I go home to Chevery every year or so to visit and
remember and feel the peace of the sea and the islands and the boats.
I went to Nfld last summer to Burgeo to see where my grandparents came
from and they have a kayaking program there at the Burgeo Haven in Burgeo
its a sea kayaking trip and its something like the trip you have done to
Blanc Salbon.
Its
a lovely place the north shore I cant wait to go home and visit .....
