Burgeo to Red Island

Burgeo to Red Island
The scale line represents 5 km on the water, or approximately 1 hour paddling a loaded kayak in good weather conditions.
Each square on the map represents a 10 x 10 km area.

Départure point :

Sandbanks Provincial Park, East beach, near the parking lot.

Route and camp:

Between the Burgeo Islands, past the Burgeo public wharf (watch for heavy boat traffic), then straight East, across Bay de Loup, past the lighthouse at Bay de Loup Point, to Red Island.

Note : although we went around the South of Red Island, we probably would have found sheltered sites more quickly had we turned in on the West side of the island.

There are a few cabins North of Red Island and in Doctor Harbour, at the back of Northeast Arm, juste East of Red Island.

We camped on a rocky beach on the East side of the island, not a good choice if the wind had been blowing from the East or Southeast

Traveling time : 2 hours plus stops.
